About the platform

Who is Chirurgenkurs for?

Chirurgenkurs is designed for Swiss surgical residents preparing for the Basisexamen Chirurgie (Core Surgical Exam). It is also useful for junior residents in the early years of training who want to consolidate their theoretical foundation in surgical knowledge.

Which examination does Chirurgenkurs prepare me for?

Chirurgenkurs is specifically designed for the Swiss Core Surgical Exam (Basisexamen Chirurgie) — the mandatory theoretical examination that all surgical residents in Switzerland must pass during their training. The question format, difficulty level, and subject coverage are aligned to this exam.

Is Chirurgenkurs affiliated with an official examination organization?

No. Chirurgenkurs is an independent educational tool operated as a private service by Chirurgenkurs. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or in any way associated with the Swiss surgical examination authority or any official examining body. We make no claims of official status.

What subjects are covered?

The current Chirurgenkurs question bank covers 11 surgical subject areas: Anesthesia, Emergency & Intensive Care, Cardiac Surgery, General Surgical Principles, Neurosurgery, Pediatric Surgery, Plastic, Reconstructive & Hand Surgery, Thoracic Surgery, Trauma & Orthopedic Surgery, Urology, Vascular Surgery, Visceral Surgery.

Using the question bank

What format are the questions?

Chirurgenkurs uses five-option A–E single-best-answer questions for Type A–style practice. Each question has one best answer and four plausible distractors. Chirurgenkurs currently uses five-option A–E single-best-answer questions for Type A–style practice; it does not reproduce the K′ format.

Can I repeat questions I have already answered?

Yes. You can re-practice any question at any time. You can also specifically target questions you answered incorrectly, questions you flagged for review, or questions you have not yet answered — each of these queues is available in your dashboard.

What is the difference between timed (exam) mode and study mode?

In exam mode, you answer questions under time pressure and receive no feedback until the session ends — just like the real exam. In study mode, you see the correct answer and a full explanation immediately after each question, with no time constraint. Both modes record your performance and contribute to your analytics.

Can I flag questions for later review?

Yes. During a practice session you can flag any question with a single tap. All flagged questions are collected in a dedicated queue that you can work through as a standalone session at any time.

What happens if I do not finish a test session?

Unanswered questions are automatically tracked. You can always return to them from your dashboard and complete them in a subsequent session.

Access and payment

How does access work after payment?

Once your payment is confirmed by Stripe, access is granted automatically and verified securely on our servers. You do not need to do anything — simply log in and your account will have full access. Access is not granted based solely on a payment redirect; it is confirmed server-side after Stripe notifies us of a successful payment.

How long does access last?

A single payment gives you 12 months' access to the full question bank, including any question additions or updates during that period, with no recurring fees.

What is included in the payment?

The payment gives you full access to all questions across 11 surgical subject areas, both timed exam mode and study mode, detailed per-option explanations, performance analytics, flagged and incorrect question review, and all future updates to the question bank.

Which payment methods are accepted?

Payment is processed by Stripe, which accepts all major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) as well as Apple Pay and Google Pay where available. All transactions are processed securely by Stripe; we do not store your card details.
